Yes, that is a picture of our child in a chick onesie stroking a Burmese python. She loved him! He probably loved her too, on account of her being dressed as one of his favourite foods.
Over the Easter weekend, we took Alexandra to the farm for the first time (Hoo Farm for the record, it’s fab). She’s been to the zoo but this was a maiden voyage to our local farm. I LOVE the farm. I get all excited about the little animals and it’s one of my favourite places to go. Dylan and I went on one of our first dates to Hoo, it was fabulous.
I wasn’t sure how much she’d be awake for (Alex slept through most of Edinburgh Zoo) but luckily she decided to have a mega nap in the morning before we went and so she was alert and ready to have a look at all the animals. She loves anything which runs around and attracts her attention so the otters were a hit but she also enjoyed seeing the newborn lambs, stroking a ewe’s ear while we were there.
However, her favourite bit (judging by her smiles) was the reptiles. They had a number of creatures on display and visitors were allowed to come up and touch them, ask questions etc. We joked with one of the staff about Alexandra being dressed as a chick (it was Easter, it’s compulsory!). Then when we got round to the Burmese python, the man kindly held its head away from us so Alex could touch it. I was a little worried about her grabbing tendencies, not the best way to approach a snake, but she was actually very gentle and stroked him for ages. We were very impressed and she was all smiles, obviously enjoying the texture of his skin.
All in all, it was a great day out and we’ll definitely be returning soon as well as checking out some other farms in the area.
