I’ve only been blogging for a couple of weeks (and what I have posted is just me rabbiting on) so imagine my surprise when I got a Twitter notification and I’d been given a blogging award! A lovely lady called Marie who blogs at Mum And Then Some (do go over and have a read) chose me as one of 11 bloggers for the Liebster Award. So I’ve answered the questions she posed in this post and then in turn I’ve nominated a further 11 people – do check them out as well! Thank you so much Marie!
What do you value most in life?
I’m not sure if people count as a ‘what’ but it’s my blog so what the hell I’ll do what I want! This is probably a hugely cliché answer but I place the most value on the people I have in my life. I am ridiculously lucky to not only have the support of my lovely family but also of my husband-to-be and my friends. I went through a really tough time last year, really tough, and without all the people in my life I definitely wouldn’t be sat here telling people that. To support someone through their roughest days when they’re not really able to be a friend/daughter/sister etc back to you because their own problems have pretty much overtaken who they are as a person is a really special thing. They say you know who your true friends are when they stick by you during something like that and I didn’t lose one person in my life through the whole experience, in fact I only got closer to people. Anyway, gush fest over!
What dance best describes your personality?
I’ve never really thought about this! I’d like to think something energetic and fun like the jive, that everyone likes. That’d be a nice way to be thought of, right? Maybe I’ve never thought about it because my own style of dancing is ‘have a few vodkas, make up silly dance moves and sway around the place having a laugh’. I’ve heard it’s fairly popular but it’s yet to reach the professional dance world.
What do you feel is your purpose in life?
I think everyone’s purpose in life is to try and enhance the lives of those around them. To make them laugh, to love them, to be a shoulder to cry on when they need one, to push them to achieve their goals. I’d hope I’m one of those people who provides added value to others and who helps them in any small way, not one of those who tries to drag others down, demotivate them or uninspire (is that even a word?) them.
How did you decide on the name of your blog and what did it come from?
It was a flash of inspiration! I was sat looking at the screen blankly, wondering what the hell to call the blog. I wanted something with ‘bump’ in it and then I thought ‘well I’m growing it so why not growing the bump’. It’s not exactly an overwhelming story I’ll save for the grandkids but it’s the truth!
What is it that you love most about blogging?
I worked in journalism for five years when you have to be careful about balancing stories, not presenting opinions as facts, getting all the sides of the story, being very unbiased etc. To sit down in front of a computer and be able to type whatever I want – to swear if I want to, to rant if I want to, to be a little bit flippant if I want to – is quite refreshing for me. I love writing, reading, communicating through the power of funny little letters strung together to make different meanings! Also to see people starting to respond – to log on and to comment – so early on with this blog is amazing!
What would you do today if you knew you could not fail?
I don’t think fear of failure has held me back from a lot of things in life, I’m never one of these people who goes into a situation being really confident in my own abilities so I’ve got used to just trying my damned hardest to succeed and constantly wondering if I am doing so! I probably haven’t challenged myself physically as hard as I have mentally – as in doing stuff like rock climbing, white water rafting, paragliding etc – because I’m not very sporty and I would be inclined to think I’d be no good at it. So maybe there’s my answer, I would embark on more exhilarating physical tasks. As it is, trainers are firmly in the cupboard until after baby – running was a challenge in itself before pregnancy but an absolute no go now!
What is the first thing you like to do in the morning?
Pee. Everyone has to pee first thing…But in a less gross answer, if it’s the weekend then definitely have a little cuddle with Dyl before we get up (awww or puke depending on your levels of sentimentality) or if it’s a weekday and he’s already at work now I’m pregnant breakfast is always first on my list before a shower.
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
When I was younger I always wanted to retire to Scotland. My mom’s side of the family are from there and I always enjoyed our trips up there during my childhood. I just think it’s a much friendlier place than England – people say hi to you on the street, the accent is fantastic etc. (I say that as if every Scot sounds exactly the same…!) Plus the ice cream is crazy good. But right now I’m really happy living close to my family and, while I have lots of places I’d like to visit, I’ve never been so struck by somewhere that I could imagine spending my whole life there.
What is your favourite outdoor activity?
This is probably going to sound a little tragic and age me by about 90 years, but I love a good walk. There’s nothing nicer than a stroll, especially in the sunshine. Either with someone by your side to have a chat to or with some music on. Lovely.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I have no idea and that doesn’t really scare me that much. Right now the only certainties are that I will have been married for nearly five years and I will have a four-year-old child. Whether there’s another smaller child, whether we’re living in the same place, whether I’m back at work full time or part time, whether I’ve found a new career path or am just doing ‘bit jobs’ to bring some money in, it’s all a great big unknown. But I think when you have this tight family structure and when you feel loved and lucky every day (gosh I am getting gushy, blame the pregnancy hormones) that’s the main thing which matters and everything else will sort itself out!
